A different kind of interactive story?

First of all i hope everyone had a nice christmas! My developing idea is quite lateral, its the idea of an interactive story using Rorchsach's images (see below).I want to take one of his images and animate the one image to tell a story, the story will narrate the different meanings the ink blot conveys. The interactive part involves the way in which people have interacted with the test and what they have seen. It involves the difference in the way people percieve things. So, in short whatever people see from this one image i will turn into an animation where by the user watch's the transformation of all meanings.

My Designed Ink blot image, not to be used in animation, this image was designed purely for experimentation and portfolio purposes.

Digitalise Rorschach

I need to think of ways of how i can blend the use of digital design with the ideas of Rorschach? Here is an example from you tube.. would have been nice to use!

Rorschach Test

Bit gutted i missed this mornings lesson, however this afternoon has been really helpful. Dan and i had a great discussion that has given me great direction towards this project. I've been looking at the psychology of social interaction, the ways we react in social interaction, psychology of colours and the ideals of constuctivism and functionalism. John Burger's, ways of seeing and Art and Illusion, GOMBRICH E.H are proving to be really helpful texts towards this subject, Dan also recommended Perception of the mind, ED DE BONO. The most helpful information was learning about the RORSCHACH TEST. The Rorschach inkblot test is a method of psychological evaluation. Psychologists use this test to try to examine the personality characteristics and emotional functioning of their patients. It was proved to be very popular and i am going to steer very close to the principles of the test and carry out alot of research as to how the tests our anaylsed, types of outcomes, colours used, meaning of drawings e.t.c

Below is an example of the types of images used and possible outcomes the user might see.

Plate I

This is a black and white card, often described as looking like a mask or the face of a fox or wolf. Possible Sexual Imagery: Breasts, primarily the rounded areas at the top of the image.

Plate II

This is a card with black and red ink, often described as people dancing or touching hands with each other. Possible Sexual Imagery: Male sex organ at top center or, in some cases, a vagina (at the center near the bottom).
If anyone is would like to look further into the subject follow this link.

Interaction Idea, POSSIBLY?

Ok, so i am working along the idea of interaction towards people and objects. I want to look at the way in which we interact with each other. I want to look at sterotypes, judgement, gender, disabilities. The way we instanlty judge someone through the way they interact diffently, whether their clothes are different or colour of their hair. I would like to do my interactive work on a performance art piece by filming peoples initial reactions by the way i interact with them. For example i remember when caprice(the model) appeared on a tv documentry where she agreed to walk around with a face impairment caused by a severe burn, now obviously this was all done by make up and caprice's face was quite dis-figured.She was barely reconginsed as caprice, but more to the point it was interesting how the public interacted with her. Some would look in dispear, others tried there best to be polite and act like they didn't notice, while other's stared from a distant. So, obviously i dont have a make up artist, but i do have face paint, Which brings me to the idea of painting my face in an usual way and walking around brighton hotspots, filming the publics reaction, going into sainsbury's or queueing for the bank. I want to see the way in which people interact diffently to things they do not instantly recognise or what is considered to be different.

The Burble

The Burble is a massive structure reaching up towards the sky, composed of approximately 1000 extra-large helium balloons each of which contains microcontrollers and LEDs that create spectacular patterns of light across the surface of the structure. The Burble is held down to the ground by the combined weight of the crowds holding on to the handle bar. They may position it as they like. They may curve in on themselves, or pull it in a straight line - the form is a combination of the crowd's desires and the impact of wind currents varying throughout the height of the Burble.
As people on the ground shake and pump the handle bars of the Burble, they see their movements echoed as colours through the entire system. Part installation, part performance, the Burble enables people to contribute at an urban scale to a structure that occupies their city, albeit for only one night.

Illuminating York

A specially commissioned project for Illuminating York 2007 in northern England, Evoke is a massive animated projection that lights up the facade of York Minster in response to the public, who use their own voices to "evoke" colourful light patterns that emerge at the building's foundations and soar up towards the sky, giving the surface a magical feeling as it melts with colour

Sensors.. Thinking outside the box...

Right so After Mike Blows Presentation about how types of sensors, How they can be used and ways in which we could use them for interaction i decided that the gaming idea was boring and i wanted to develop something thats different and realised that this brief is in fact quite generous to opportuniy. So... I am now looking at how we have become so depended on interaction, by means that we interact with everything without realising, our time of reaction is quicker than a heartbeat, it seems we no longer stop to think. Even when browsing a website we are so used to a structure that has been pshyhology set to the way our eyes follow a certian structure in which we do obey. So i want to test this action, I want to see how society has become depended on interaction through familiarity. I've been reading Art and Illusion, E.H GOMBRICH, reads about the psychology of pictorial representation. For example when we draw a coin it is drawn by the way we see it resting on our palm, so we draw it to that scale, when do we draw a huge circle for a coin? Other types of reearch will be illusions and semiotics and symbols. Another idea towards symbols an signs is to tell a story purely through image and see what outcomes it produces.

Making Games.

Ok.. so went through the game tutorials to get an idea of how hard they are to make and how fun e.t.c. At the basic stage my primary concerns were that they work and that they are not to time consuming to make, Just little tests really. Ok would like people to have a go but having trouble uploading th swf file onto this blogger?? so unless anyone has any ideas then yuor going to have to use your imagination.

woops time to update!

So, what have what have i been up to?? Well my initial idea was to construct a series of games on flash and deliver them through a website so i've been looking at a series of flash game tutorials to see how hard it would be to make the games and what type of games are avaliable, almost like keeping up to date with flash fashion. The webiste http://www.flashperfection.com/categories/Flash-Tutorials-Flash-Games-Tutorials-/page3.html was very useful an full of great tutorials. It also lead me to other ideas such as:
  • An interactive story
  • text game
  • fortune teller ( quite fun)
  • the simon game (see link below)
  • creating talking pictures, hidden speech bubbles on famous pictures, for example you could have a picture of mona lisa and when the mouse is rolled over the picture then a speech bubble comes up saying something like " you really think this looks like im smiling" or "My name isnt actually mona" so taking serious iconic art with tongue and cheek.

FLIP THE SCRIPTS... LETS INTERACT!

Ok... Interaction?
This project is about attempting to get students to extend the perceptual boundaries of what interaction and technology can achieve.

Main contextual points from brief:
  • It is interactivity that separates the new from old
  • The ability to control our experiences
  • New forms of empowerment
  • We are merely operating within the bounds of constructed environments

My initial reaction towards this brief is to work with flash and see what types of interactive games and tutorials are avalaible and what is currently being delivered in the flash gaming world. So from the old school word games, I guess a bit like zelda but BASIC!! To modern Flash shoot em ups!!! POW!!!
